Lying in the middle of Transylvania, on the banks of the Mures River, at 46°32’ north latitude, 24°52’ east longitude at a height of 320 metres, covering an area of 4930 ha., our town was first mentioned in documents in 1332, having an exquisite natural surrounding, Targu Mures is considered ‘a quiet town’ where ethnical tolerance is respected. Our town is the capital of Mures district, inhabited by 15.000 people, 52% Romanians, 39% Hungarians, 6% Gypsies and 0.3% Germans. The town has a rapid development dynamics and the ethnic mixture helps to create a disciplined and well qualified workforce.

Here are some tourist attractions, worth visiting.

The Mediaeval Citadel
It is dated 1492, is near the centre of the town, it has thick fortified walls with seven bulwarks, sheltering an old Gothic church.

The Cornesti Plateau
The highest point of the town (448 m), it offers a bird’s eye view upon it and the possibility of hiking. The main attraction is the Zoo, the third one inRomania, as surface.

The Culture Palace
An imposing building, opened in 1913, it shelters numerous museums (of History, Art), the Philharmonic orchestra and the Public Library. The place is famous for its Mirrors Hall and the central hall, 45 metres in length, made of marble.

Sighisoara and its Medieval Citadel
At a distance of 40 minutes' drive from Targu Mures, Sighisoara called the ‘museum town’, shelters the only inhabited medieval citadel in Europe.

Outings
God’s Chair, a magnificent rock in the Calimani Mountains at a height of 1308 m, Francun Peak (1684 m height), Saka Mare (1777 m height) in the Gurghiu Mountains, the Bucin Pass (1287 m height), Tusnad Spa and Sfanta Ana volcanic Lake, Bicaz Gorges and the natural lake Lacul Rosu, Sovata Spa, Sangeorgiu Spa and natural reservations in the neighbouring districts.

Targu Mures can be reached by car on the E16 route and DN15 rood, by plane from and to Targu Mures airport and by railway on the Line 405.
